So this remedy for the airbag sensor, that GM spent a whole year looking into:

...turns out to be a piece of tape. Time to go and mess with their Cadillacs, but hope they don’t rip my seat cover in the process. Impossible to find now.

General Motors has decided that a defect... exists...

Anybody else getting tired of the word “decided” in this context? I mean, you don’t just “decide” whether or not a defect already exists. It’s either there or it’s not there, and once you recognize it, the next step is admitting it. Then it’s on to the remedy...

Not that it really matters much in the end. I just think that “decided” sends the wrong message. Like they knew about it, and spent a lot of time debating on whether or not to admit to it. (TBH, that’s probably not far from the truth...)

I just feel like “determined” would be a better word choice here. “Determined” would imply that they became aware of it, investigated it, and are doing something about it.

They didn’t decide nor determined anything in this. They got called out because they were ignoring the NHTSA complaints.

Could be they decided whether or not it was a defect, or if they just classify it as normal wear after 10 years.
